Bob Greaves is a household name in the North-West and was the most regular and the most recognised face on Granada's regional programmes for over 32 years.
At Granada he appeared almost daily from when he first began reading news bulletins and presenting PUT IT IN WRITING and POLICE FILE back in 1967.
A few years ago a street research-study revealed that no fewer than 96 per cent of people in the North West could name him from his photograph.
Since the mid - 60s Bob reckons he has presented nearly 12,000 live programmes, ranging from SCENE, NEWSVIEW,
SIX-O-ONE, NEWSDAY, EXCHANGE FLAGS, and of course GRANADA REPORTS from 1973 right through to the mid- 80's and until recently GRANADA TONIGHT.
In addition , he has presented REPORTS ACTION on the national network, five series of the award winning SCRAMBLE and made scores of film reports for Granada's UNION WORLD for Channel 4.
Bob has also been the presenter-commentator for most of Granada's regional outside broadcasts, including the Royal visits to Coronation Street.
"Dubbed" Mr. Granada, Bob's work for the company never stopped at news and features, it also included many hundreds of Sports and Showbiz items and interviews, and special personal series like BOB ABOUT, WORLD ON A PLATE, FAMILY TREES and BOB'S BYGONES and BOB'S CENTURY.
Yet the one moment which brought him fame around the world was from none of these, but when an elephant "investigated" his lower regions during a live outside broadcast from Chester Zoo in 1981 .The clip was picked by Denis Norden for his "It'll Be Alright On The Night " programme and subsequently it has been shown and re-shown on television and video in at least 20 countries, ranging from the United States, Canada, Germany, France and Hong Kong to Dubai and Swaziland.
Bob joined Granada as News Editor in 1964 after working as a newspaperman on the Sale and Stretford Guardian ,the Nottingham Evening News, and the Daily Mail in Manchester . He covered soccer for several national newspapers ,including the Mail on Sunday.
Although he has now retired from Granada Television Bob is still very much a North West face and is often stopped in the street by loyal fans and members of the public that just want to have a chat with him.
He is still in demand for Corporate events including presenting video's and hosting company conferences and award ceremonies and for voice overs and after dinner functions.
