The most versatile talent to come out of Norfolk since Bernard Mathews and his ready sliced turkey breasts, Roseby’s career is nothing but impressive – sliced or whole.
In Theatre, T.V., Radio and Journalism Roseby is carving a unique reputation as an articulate, amusing, self-deprecating presenter, broadcaster and writer with a knowing irony and mass appeal to all generations; ‘wonderful acerbic wit’ (The Daily Telegraph), ‘one to watch’ (Time Out), ‘wish he’d ring me more often’ (His Mum).
Also the creative force behind The National Youth Theatre as their Co-Artistic Director for the past two years, he has directed and championed Britain’s biggest youth and arts organisation resulting in rave reviews, and much media attention.
Apart from planning the NYT’s 50th anniversary next year, Roseby is currently writing and presenting his second four part series, ‘More Fabulous Flops’, for BBC Radio 4 (TX February 06) taking him to Broadway, New York, and The High Street, Guildford. His first series was critically acclaimed and Roseby’s delighted to be back in the bosom of the BBC although he is not necessarily just a tit man.
He is a TV man though - television that is, ranging from Arts, Travel, Documentary, Design, Gardening, Food, and Daily Magazine Shows. His experience as a live broadcaster leaves many a studio director far too relaxed given the large amount of money they get. From the daily topical arts show on BBC Choice’s ‘Backstage’ and Channel 5’s ‘5’s Company’ to UKTV Food’s ‘Good Food Live at The Royal Opera House’ and BBC LDN’s ‘West End Is Booming’ his ear piece is still on active duty.
Never frightened on picking on the dear unsuspecting public, many of his shows have relied on just that such as ‘Kitchen Takeover’, ‘Who’s Looking At You?’ and ‘Great Escape’ all who have managed to escape without too much harm.
A home loving boy, it appears that many a magazine have loved Roseby’s homes too, appearing in Hello, Living etc, Elle Decoration and many more. His penchant for sharp style meant that presenting ‘Fab Pads’ on UKTV Style was like wearing a pair of comfortable designer shoes. Something he should know quite a lot about, given that Wayne Hemingway gave Roseby a job in his first Red or Dead store in Covent Garden. Happy memories and a pair of orange rubber sole platforms in the back of his wardrobe are still there to remind him.
All of the above is a far cry from when he first came to live in London as a young actor at the age of 17 and in between jobs had to sell clothes out of a bag by knocking on every door to guarantee ‘that big sale’. It didn’t always work, and they didn’t always buy, but they never slammed the door in his face. Well, not yet anyway.
