|Rob McLoughlin O.B.E.
Rob is a multi-award winning TV and Radio Presenter; best known as the face of Elections, Politics as well as News and Current Affairs on ITV Granada and was one of the first Presenters on BBC Radio Five Live.
He hosted a series of TV and radio specials with David Cameron; George Osborne and others including William Hague in the run up to the last General Election and also hosted a series of specials for ITV1 after the ground-breaking Leaders’ Debates on ITV1, BBC1 and Sky.
He currently hosts the heated and often controversial current affairs and political series PARTY PEOPLE on ITV1 Granada.
He re-launched (with Lucy Meacock) the popular GRANADA REPORTS (2001-02); has hosted ELECTION SPECIALS since 1994 on Granada; he presented ITV1’s first interactive Current Affairs programme (via text) THE LAST WORD from 2003-2006 and has presented the London and Manchester based series PARTY PEOPLE since its inception in 2005 as well as its fore-runners THE SUNDAY SUPPLEMENT, THE LINE and the ground breaking THE SPIN about Politics, the Media and PR.
This former WORLD IN ACTION investigator and ITN Reporter was also one of the first hosts on BBC Radio Five Live (WEEKEND BREAKFAST 1994 on loan from ITV) and has presented his own Sunday Morning Live Shows (ROB McLOUGHLIN LIVE) on the UK’s latest talk station; the shows featured a mouth watering guest list of political; show-biz and sporting figures in an eclectic mix which also included the world’s first Radio Cartoonist and The Meanest Quiz on the Radio! (You can’t win and he can’t lose!).
Guests included PM David Cameron; Vince Cable; George Osborne; Sir David Frost; Kenny Dalglish; Ian St.John; Ronnie O’Sullivan, survivors of the Mumbai Massacre; The Sugababes; Hayley Westenra; Kiki Dee; Englebert Humperdinck; Jon Culshaw; Alistair McGowan; Jeremy Kyle; Richard Madeley and Esther Rantzen to name just a few.
He is in constant demand as a host of major events he recently auctioned off Peter Kay live for £18,000 during a surprise appearance by the comedian for a charity which raised £150,000 in one night!
He has hosted and facilitated conferences and award ceremonies across the UK and Europe and is also a sought-after political and news commentator on radio and in the press: recently publishing a profile and hard hitting interview with the new Chancellor in a leading business magazine (INSIDER).
Another magazine recently described him as one of the ‘most respected interviewers on TV; respected by interviewees (despite a sometimes penetrating and relentless style on political interviews) colleagues and audiences’ – it also praised his ‘witty and spontaneous style’.
On the other side of the cameras: Rob is a leading producer and executive as well as businessman; he is a former Board Director of Granada TV and was an Advisor to Granada and ITV plc from 1998-2008; he recently revived the iconic music show THE TUBE for Channel Four’s digital radio experiment; he has devised and produced programmes for all leading UK channels including specials on MORECAMBE AND WISE for BBC ONE and also Granada TV; he has made programmes for ITV; Discovery Europe as well as Channel Four and the BBC and channels abroad.
His series EYE ON THE WORLD (Discovery/S4CI) on the role of the camera in warfare, medicine and entertainment has sold across the globe. He founded the multi-disciplined and international group HASGROVE plc which now employs more than 300 people in 6 countries and has turnover in excess of £30 (m). Rob sits on the international editorial board of the academic publication The Journal of Public Affairs (Wiley) and ran UCG the company which produces THE BRITISH COMEDY AWARDS now on Channel Four.
Rob has picked up countless awards including an RTS as a member of the GRANADA REPORTS team (1980s) WORLD IN ACTION won a team BAFTA for outstanding contribution to British TV; he won an RTS as the presenting team on Granada’s coverage of the IRA bombing of Manchester (1996) and won 12 national and regional awards for the charitable project THE GRANADA COMMUNITY CHALLENGE which he created with Charles Allen CBE. It was valued at more than £12 (m). He has also won awards and been nominated for other programmes.
Rob has been a member of Equity since the age of 17 and appeared as himself in the opening episode of the Emmy Award winning Jimmy McGovern series THE STREET (Granada for BBC ONE); A and E; has even played a disc-jockey on WORLD IN ACTION and made countless appearances as himself (usually in the box in the corner of the room) on CORONATION STREET.
