Sian Astley

Sian's extensive practical knowledge of all things property sets her apart from other presenters as an expert who's learnt about property ‘on the job’ as opposed to through TV presenting, though the two have occasionally run side by side.

Setting up her own specialist building company in 1996 and buying her first property with just a £1 deposit, Sian has now accrued 17 years hands on experience as a lady builder, renovator and developer, re-designing and refurbishing hundreds of properties for herself and clients, significantly raising property values through innovative & intuitive design, in both boom years and slow downs.

Starting with that single 100% buy to let apartment mortgage, she now self- manages her own portfolio of residential properties worth in excess of £2.5m, all having undergone back-to-brick refurbishments with works financed, designed and project managed by herself.

Her company, ‘Moregeous Design Studio’ provides a design service, invaluable advice, expertise and building work for clients anxiously looking to get the best value for their money. Sian not only re-thinks their homes, but also organises all the works, controls the builders and ensures everything is finished off to the very highest specification.

However, appearances can be deceptive and although petite looking, Sian is renowned for getting her hands dirty, jumping in and out of skips and generally getting stuck in on site at every opportunity.

Her passion and expertise for property was showcased in the Channel 4 show Property Ladder in 2002 on an infamous episode in which she and the show's presenter Sarah Beeny did not see eye to eye. On a subsequent revisit in 2005, Sarah revised her opinion and candidly admitted that Sian had actually done phenomenally well. This led to a great deal of press interest with her property and media career going from strength to strength.

On Sky's Channel M for Manchester's Homesmine show, Sian visited national design shows to highlight the latest interior trends, interviewed designer makers and showcased new developments interviewing everyone from residents, architects and managing directors. Her relaxed manner and friendly style, allied to her considerable knowledge of the property industry means she is just as at home chatting with the ‘chippy’  or a company chairman.

Sian has featured on ‘Relocation Relocation Relocation’ as a Manchester residential lettings expert. Her renovation of a Grade II listed cottage won it's episode of ITV's ‘May The Best House Win’ and she also acted as a female mentor on BBC3's ‘How to Live with Women’.

In 2012, she fronted a series of four episodes of Channel 5's Half Built House, in which she battled with the builders to get the most & best work done on the DIY disaster homes featured. With over a million viewers per episode, the shows were a hit with the property addicted viewers and were a very honest representation of the often stressful process of home renovations.

Sian is a TV natural, knowledgeable and relaxed, a skilled interviewer and confident for camera. She frequently appears on guest panels for property professional events and hosted a live debate for the ‘Parliament Channel ’for the energy assessment industry.

Outside of property, her passions include food & cooking, good wine and supporting her local independent businesses. She recently played a leading role in a successful campaign to save her local leisure centre and swimming baths threatening with closure. She writes a well read blog and is a prolific tweeter, embracing all things social media.
