Roger Johnson

Roger presents North West Tonight – the flagship BBC1 regional news programme for the North West.  He succeeded Gordon Burns in the role in September 2011.  Roger has also been a presenter on the BBC News Channel and on BBC Breakfast.  A versatile broadcaster, for many years his focus was sport.  Roger was a regular commentator and reporter on Match of the Day and was a member of the BBC team at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.  He is (probably) the only person to commentate on Match of the Day and read the BBC News on the same day!

Roger joined the BBC in 1994.  He was the Manchester United commentator on BBC GMR (now Radio Manchester) for two years in the 1990s.  He then joined the BBC’s TV news team in Southampton – where he was a popular presenter on South Today for more than a decade.  Born in Stoke-on-Trent, Roger has an American Studies degree from the University of Birmingham.  He has won – or been nominated for – several Royal Television Society Awards.  Roger is married with a young family.
